NACIS Golf team’s March Tournament News

On March 8th, the first monthly tournament of NACIS golf team in the spring semester 2019 concluded at the Shanghai Yintao Golf Course, where 21 players from primary division and 9 players from the junior high division competed in a 9 hole game from two sets of tee boxes.  Kevin Xu from 5 Sycamore and Ronald Zheng from 7 Oak won the championship in their respective division. The blue team of “Anglia”, consisting of 15 players, won the group competition against the red team of “Nord”.

In the primary division, Kevin Xu from 5 Sycamore won the championship with 41 strokes, Jiale Wu from 5 Oak, and Joanna Zhao from 5 Willow ranked No. 2 with 46 strokes, and No. 3 with 47 strokes respectively. While in the junior high division, Ronald Zheng from 7 Oak successfully defended the championship with 41 strokes, Ben Wang from 7 Elm and Skywalker Ren from 6 Yew, ranked No. 2 with 45 strokes and No. 3 with 46 strokes respectively; In addition, special prizes were given to seven players: Kevin Xu won the best birdie award; Eric Zhang from 3 Oak and Olivia Gao from 2 Blossom won the closest pin awards; Henry Wang from 5 Oak, Wiley Hang from 8 Elm, Ben Wang, and Joanna Zhao won the best etiquette awards.
The weather was perfect after weeks of rain, and the course was in great shape. The junior golfers looked very excited and cheerful with the bright red and blue team uniforms, and they had a fun time to play together. Yintao golf club is an 18-hole Australian style of golf course, with fairways flowing through a moderately undulating landscape, tactfully placed bunkers not only challenging for the less gifted but also for the low handicappers, and greens well contoured and generally divided into shelves.

This game was more competitive than ever because many junior players played much better after hard practice during the winter break. In primary division, Kevin Xu has broken the monopoly of Jiale Wu, and in junior high division, the gap between Ronald Zheng and the runner-ups has been reduced, which fully demonstrated the charm of this sport:Skill and luck matter, but the mindset is the key. As Principal Nick encouraged the players in his speech, golf will teach them how to calmly face the ups and downs in their life.

The next team event will be the sixth Yaoshun Youth Cup Golf Tournament, which will be held in Hongqiao Golf Club from April 5th to 7th. We are looking forward to having more NACIS students to join our golf team, to practice the 5C concepts “Community” brought up by Principal Nick.  Be ambitious!
Player of the month:Kevin Xu from 5 Sycamore
Kevin Xu says: I am very proud to be a member of NACIS community golf team. I really enjoyed playing golf with my teammates in the beautiful golf courses, feeling the joy of making pars, and experiencing the ecstasy of notching birdies. Golf also teaches me good lessons when things go south: Sometimes you hook the ball into the water when you swing the driver very hard trying to get the ball further; Sometimes you turn a birdie into a bogey by three putts while you hits the green in regulation.  In order to get lower scores, I will keep on working hard with my coach, accumulating more course experience, further improving my skills, and reducing my mistakes. I am more than happy to share my thoughts with my teammates, and I will try my best to make good contribution to the team so that NACIS golf team could become the best junior team in Shanghai!
