2019 Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festival Orchestral Festival China

The 2019 Nord Anglia Performing Arts Festival Orchestral Festival, including 9 Nord Anglia schools from China, was held on 7 to 9 March. We were honored to have Mr. Oliver Hagen, Juilliard School’s Pre-College Orchestra conductor, joining us. For this event, 150 students were selected to participate in the Nord Anglia Performing Arts Orchestra Festival. For NACIS, 27 students participated and had been preparing 10 different songs since last October. During this music festival, all students from 9 schools were separated into intermediate and advanced orchestras, and had so many interesting, profound and enlightening activities to engage in including Orchestral rehearsals, Jazz workshop, musical theatre, DJ music, Music & Dance, and Conducting Skills, etc. Teachers from each school also spent a huge amount of time supporting students, after each orchestra rehearsals with Oliver helped to prepare students for their final concert at the Greenland Home Theatre. Ms. Shin coached the intermediate full orchestra rehearsals and sectionals for wind instrument, and Mr. Wen coached the brass and saxophone sectionals. One of the participant Ryan said, “I never practiced this much and this hard in my entire life, and I liked it.”

Mr. Hagen’s passionate conducting drove students to improve the music that they were playing and encouraged them to improve their individual and orchestral performance skills.  In the final concert, the wonderful music played by all students and teachers was well received with a round of applause from the audience.   After the concert, students enjoyed their Pizza party and received their photos and certification of achievement.  Congratulations to all of the participants, and on a job well done!  Thank you to all the parents and every music teacher who have been supporting the event. Thank you also to Mr. Hagen, a fantastic conductor from Juilliard, for providing our students with a rich artistic inspiration and an experience which our students will never forget.
