Grade 4 had a fantastic trip to Nanbeihu! As soon as we arrived at the hotels, children dropped their bags off in their rooms before taking part in some initial activities with their Insight Adventures Group Leaders to get to know each other and prepare for the many exciting events ahead.
Before long, the children had embarked on lots of different team and individual challenges over the 4 days including, rock climbing, leap of faith, catapult building and archery.
We were extremely impressed with how the children conducted themselves. Lots of children pushed themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of and left the trip feeling a deep sense of pride. It was hugely impressive for the teachers to see just how many children were prepared to take the ‘leap of faith’, which involved climbing up and jumping off a 30-foot pole. This was a very daunting (but very safe) challenge that required great bravery and focus.
It was also a fantastic opportunity for Grade 4 to learn the benefits of teamwork in a practical scenario to achieve a common goal. The children showed the best of themselves as they took part in group activities. During catapult building after learning how to tie a few knots, the children had to create and assemble a catapult capable of firing a water bomb. It was amazing to see all the different designs the children had created through good team work and persistence.
Once again, a huge well done to all the children in Grade 4. We are confident that they have learned a set of skills and values that will serve them well for the years to come.
“I really enjoyed the trip to Nanbeihu. I think the best part of the trip was the camp fire. Everyone gathered together telling stories and tales. They put us all in a good mood. The flaming fire in the middle of the circle was like our friendship and co-operation that will keep bright in our hearts forever.” - Emily Yan, 4 Cedar
"We learnt about teamwork, sharing, kindness, listening and being brave. We celebrated a lot of things." - Sabrina, 4 Blossom
"During this trip, we did many different and exciting activities. Archery was my favourite and the most interesting. I also really enjoyed making the shelter from bamboo, tarp and ropes." - Sean Wu, 4 Oak
"I enjoyed Nanbeihu because everybody had fun and made our friendships stronger." - Sophie, 4 Elm
"My favourite day was Day 2. I loved CS (laser tag) – it was really fun and exciting. The whole trip really helped me to collaborate more with my friends. It was a great experience and I challenged myself." - Kevin Lu, 4 Willow
"I really liked climbing the cargo net. It made me feel a little bit nervous because it was very high! It was also very tiring because you had to use your whole body to climb. I was very happy when I got to the top!" - Ian Zhou, 4 Yew
