G2 Trip to Gaungfulin Ancient Relics Park

Grade 2 enjoyed a wonderful day out at Guangfulin Ancient Relics Park, SongJiang on 16 and 17 April. As an introduction to their new MDL topic, Temples, Tombs and Treasure, the students escaped the city to learn about the history of ancient Shanghai and explore the tranquility of the surrounding scenery. They admired many ancient artifacts and took careful notes and observations of what they saw. Having explored the various temples, they took a fascinating journey in to the ‘underwater museum’ of the Guangfulin Culture Exhibition Hall. Students marvelled at how realistic the models and replicas were, which provided them with an immersive experience of Guangulin’s history, from the Neolithic period, Qing and Ming dynasty, all the way to 1980’s Shanghai. As they walked through the exhibitions, they moved through time- journeying from ancient Shanghai to more recent history. This comparison allowed them to witness how housing, work, food and lifestyles have gradually changed over the years. Before long, it was back above water for a picnic admiring the giant lake.  The Grade 2 students thoroughly enjoyed seeing such incredible history and were amazed by the vast size, space and beauty of the park. It has given them an exciting start point to their new MDL topic.
