IB Students Talk About Their Future at the Beginning of 2020

New Year 2020 is coming. This year is destined to be extraordinary for a group of students. IB students from NACIS Shanghai can't wait to embrace their college life. They all have different expectations and plans for their future. Let's listen to them talk about their future.

Emily is always "brave" and "confident" based on the evaluation of her teachers. In fact, when she came to NACIS, she didn't even dare to look her teacher in the eye. Who would have thought that she has made great changes under the guidance of teachers during the three years? She won the first NACIS scholarship, and represented NACIS as one of the first MUN visiting ambassadors and became a good example in the eyes of junior students. Emily finally found her goal -- applying for a media major at a top university.

Martin, who often appeared in various school activities, participated in the establishment of the African fair-trade platform in an IB activity and thus found his own direction: “I want to have a great career in finance”.

During the two-year IB learning, Lydia, who loves art, has gained a lot of space for development and determined her direction: “In the future, I want to be an illustrator or graphic designer, and set out for the Disney headquarters!”

Behind these promising students, the IB counselor Mr. Xiao has been supporting them.

"They have changed a lot since they entered the school three years ago," he said, “The most obvious is that they become confident and calm”.

As a school, how do we help them make an important choice in life?

"Reasonable planning", Mr. Xiao stressed repeatedly.

Since Grade 10, pre-IB students begin to receive university guidance.

Starting with the spare part diagram of a domestic Chinese aircraft C919, Mr. Xiao asked students to think about the practical question "why are we going abroad?” and take a broader view of the importance of each choice they make for their future.

“This is your first adult choice”.

Mr. Xiao expects the students to understand that their future is in their own hands.

Only by making college application a major life event can students' learning motivation be stimulated. When such students are sent abroad, schools and parents can rest assured. Emily's mother said: "Emily’s confidence and enterprise are not built in a day. After years of training in IB CAS activities, Emily found the driving force. Emily's application for studying abroad is planned and implemented by herself. I believe in her and the school”.

In Grade 11 and 12, overseas learning plans become more targeted. Mr. Xiao wants to help each student find the "most suitable" stage through the BridgeU platform, one-on-one tutoring, writing and other methods.

In terms of overseas learning resources, the powerful NAE have created many good opportunities for our students.

NAE's annual education fair is held every march. The Cambridge university, which rarely attends fairs, is here to give our students one-on-one opportunities with interviewers from the prestigious university. In addition to the education exhibition, our students will also have opportunities to visit famous universities of the designated country and directly feel the atmosphere of the university.

College application workshop is also a regular activity of NAE. Students can act as the admission officer with the help of the college admission officer and the school counselor, and "decrypt" the college application by analyzing the virtual student application.

Emily, who is about to graduate, said: “it is not the excellent I who choose IB, but it is the IB that makes me outstanding. It made me realize what I could do, what I love to do and what I should do for the society. Thanks to NACIS, the ordinary I gave out an extraordinary light.

We wish our "extraordinary" IB students be ambitious and shine in the future.
