How Does NACIS Conduct "Well-being" Education?

For a long time, philosophers, ethicists and psychologists have developed a keen interest in the connection between character and well-being. The Greek philosopher Plato wrote that good moral character could bring “the health and well-being of the soul”.


It is important for students to form a healthy outlook on life and values and a good moral character before leaving school. At NACIS Shanghai, we focus on cultivating students with a sense of social responsibility and well-being as an important part of moral education.

As rules are the foundation of everything, every citizen should have the awareness of rules. How to cultivate students' awareness of rules and help them learn to be responsible for themselves? The NACIS secondary entrusts the "master role" of moral education to students themselves. As secondary students who are about to enter university and society, self-management ability is the top priority. Students need to master rules of learning and behaviour.


"Manners make the man". In addition to the five codes of conduct that must be followed, we have divided the disciplines and motivation principles into three levels. Our principals, teachers, student council members, and NACIS students are the enforcers and supervisors of the code of conduct during the morning session and break. The advocacy of good behaviour has been incorporated into the secondary life.


At the beginning of the new academic year, every secondary student receives a brand-new 150-page study manual, including the necessary vocabulary for each subject, learning report, learning goal and weekly learning reflection. Both teachers and parents need to participate in student's learning assessment every week. The family-school co-cultivation behavior formation system helps students develop decent behavior and correct values in daily school life.

The secondary learning life is a brand new to me. I have to meet new classmates and speed up my pace in different classes every day. These changes made me realize that I must make my own schedule planning and develop strong self-management skills. Education is a tree shaking a tree, a cloud to promote a cloud, a soul awaken another soul. Our moral education is ongoing beyond the classroom all the time. Our teachers convey positive energy in daily school life through speech and behaviour, dress, and interpersonal and social interaction.

Both teachers and students have brought me moving moments about moral education. I remember that I accidentally witnessed that a child was depressed because of a conflict with his buddy. He was wandering in the corridor and his form tutor was always there just like his brother. Later, the form tutor talked to me about the boy. He said that the boy spoke out his mind. He longed to have a close friend. He wanted to be listened to and respected. The form tutor was very happy that the boy shared his feelings with him. When talking about it, his eyes glistened with tears. I saw the soft side of his heart. Maybe he was moved or surprised or gratified! I think that a teacher who always pays attention to the inner world of children and share the joys and worries with children must have great educational feelings. I feel the true essence of education - it is the resonance of love and the echo of the hearts.


Ms. Bing Xin said: "Reading is good." The morning teacher-student co-reading can also promote moral education. During the morning self-study, our teachers lead the students to read books together. By creating good reading atmosphere, we help students find meaning and value in the text and develop a broad pattern that connects the world.





Beauty is everywhere in life, but we sometimes neglect to observe it. Children who can discover, pursue, and create beauty will naturally gain happiness.


Aesthetic education and moral education can complement each other. Aesthetic education provides an appealing and attractive way for moral education. We can enhance the effect of moral education through aesthetic education. In the beautiful campus, our students can find a positive attitude towards life and create a better world with love.





In the primary, there is a group of small psychological committee members who are good helpers to the teachers and provide services for students who need help together with teachers. They write greeting cards for the newly arrived students and lead the shy classmates into the class group like brothers and sisters. They convey care within the school.


Our secondary students are also experiencing a critical period of spiritual growth and personality development. They are facing pressures and challenges from exams, interpersonal communication, emotional management and other aspects. The Well-being hub established by the secondary student union is committed to providing psychological counseling and assistance for secondary students, which is open for consultation at noon every day." We have taken many measures to implement moral education including creating a friendly campus atmosphere, advocating teachers’ company and mutual help between peers, formulating moral manuals, and building a loving campus.
