Welcome to the first Secondary update of Semester 2!
Today students enjoyed taking part in the integrated arts second “Friday Forum”. This was a spectacular showcase of the many talents our students have. Students and staff were treated to performances, from students in all grades, in singing, dancing, piano playing and a highly entertaining beatboxing act!
On Tuesday 2nd March, Grade 8 students will undertake CAT4 assessments. Cognitive Ability Testing is an assessment of developed abilities in areas known to make a difference to learning and achievement – namely verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning. These assessments are internationally recognized and ascertain student levels of competency against global averages. These assessments are being undertaken to better enable us to identify areas of strength and areas of required support for our student cohorts. These assessments are only diagnostic in their nature and used in conjunction with our rigorous internal assessments to better enable NACIS to plan provision for your child. Further details on CAT4 testing have been sent to Grade 8 parents on Firefly.
In the coming weeks STAR assessments will be taking place. These are to measure the progress in reading that students have made so far this academic year, and to celebrate students who have made excellent progress and those who may require additional support and focus between now and the end of the academic year. This will enable us to support them in their reading with the aim that their reading age will at least match their chronological age.
Students are required to be in full uniform or full PE kit in correspondence with their timetable. This includes black leather shoes only on full uniform days and trainers only on PE days. If your child is missing a part of their uniform, please contact their Form Tutor with a reason before 8.00am on that day. Now that the weather is improving, and temperatures are rising students are not permitted to wear coats and fleeces inside the school building, as was previously communicated.
As mentioned in the last Weekly Update, the Behaviour Continuum has been refined and relaunched in collaboration with our Student Council. Please take the time to familiarise yourself with the updated policy. With this relaunch comes a greater emphasis on student rewards and encouraging students to make the right choices.
Enjoy your weekend!
