Chinese Food Thematic Inquiry Event

This week Kakaket (1 Willow), Olivia (1 Sycamore), Yihong  (2 Yew), Stanley  (2 Elm) and Kevin (2 Pine) joined Mr Chris Short for his weekly Superintendents lunch having been selected at random during last week’s celebration assembly.

Mr Short was joined by Mr Kris Li, the National Head of Primary. Everyone had a good time.  There were some lovely conversations about their childhood stories, artificial intelligence and the future world. As a highlight, students taught Mr. Chris how to write Chinese characters and distinguish between “人” (which means human) and “入” (which means enter).

Beyond Bilingual

Based on the Chinese Food in textbooks, our Grade 2 Chinese teachers organised students to carry out a thematic inquiry event. Teachers and students from other grades were attracted by the exquisite rice dumplings, Dongpo Pork, dumplings, etc. Some kids recommended their dishes to others in vivid language, some designed creative slogans, some wrote poems indicating the colour, fragrance and taste of the food while some shared with others the story behind the food. As is said, “read the text and make the food”. This is a process of perception, accumulation, internalization and application. It is also a method for students to understand and express with their own sense of creativity. Students are enabled to appreciate the beauty of Chinese language and get enhanced in expression. You are also welcomed to appreciate our students’ works during the parent-teacher meeting.

Math Kangaroo

On Saturday April 17, we will have our 2021 Math Kangaroo Challenge. About 300 of our primary students will participate in this contest. Our mathematics team and logistics team have made relevant arrangements. We hope that the vivid, interesting and real-life problems can stimulate students’ interest in maths. We wish all students can enjoy the competition and make outstanding achievements.

Class psychology committee meeting

On Tuesday April 20, our class psychology committee will launch a regular meeting on the theme of "Hearing Bullying Stories, Showing Your Justice". We hope students can hear the bully's thoughts, understand the feelings of the victim and the helplessness of the bystander via story telling. Through the conversation, we aim to foster empathy in our students and give them the wisdom and courage to solve problems. So as to lead them identify their own responsibility in incidents, and to be a force in preventing bullying and creating a friendly campus. This event is also closely related with the theme of Pink Day. Later we will share with you more details.
