Mr. Short has worked in international schools for 27 years. Having qualified in Maths and Physics at St. Mary’s University in London, he started his teaching career in the Middle East and subsequently worked on Ascension Island, Vietnam and most recently in Singapore. For the last 15 years, Mr Short has held a variety of senior leadership positions.
Before moving to NACIS, Mr Short was Principal of Nord Anglia’s highly regarded Dover Court International School (DCIS). Under his leadership he embedded DCIS as a leading international school in Singapore, gaining formal recognition from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB), the Council of International Schools (CIS), the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). In addition, under his leadership, the school won the Senior Leadership Team of the Year Award in the British International Schools Awards in 2018 and more recently, the UK Impact in Singapore Award at the 20th BritCham Annual Business Awards.
Mr. Short has been working within the Nord Anglia family of schools for over eight years. His extensive knowledge and experience of starting up new schools, growing schools and leading a flagship Nord Anglia school, will be invaluable in further developing NACIS. Mr Short is also an accredited school inspector and has previously travelled extensively to Australia, Thailand, Kuwait, Yangon and China working with teams of school leaders, to assure quality control in the schools they visit.
As an alumnus of Gordonstoun, the prestigious Scottish boarding school, favoured by British royals, Mr Short personally understands the important of experiential education, running alongside traditional, academic studies. His holistic view of education is something he is passionate about and he looks forward to embedding these principles at NACIS.
Mr. Short or Christopher, as he is known to his family, has come to Shanghai with his wife Louise, who is an experienced teacher. They are very proud of their two grown up children, who are now living in the UK. They have personal experience with their own children, watching them learn and develop as independent young adults, at international schools; giving them a solid foundation to take their studies on to College and University level in the UK.
Christopher has a keen interest in world affairs, reading and golfing and he has a life- long passion for scuba diving. He started learning 35 years ago and he is now, uniquely, a PADI and BSAC instructor. He has passed on his passion to his children and together they have dragged their scuba kit to many far-flung places in the pursuit of that elusive “best dive”.
Chris and Louise are excited to be setting up home in Shanghai. Having lived all over the world, they understand the importance of embracing new cultures and respecting cultural differences.
Chris looks forward to getting to know the extended school community and bringing his own unique style of leadership to NACIS. This will be based on the solid principles of happy students, receiving a holistic education, in a highly challenging, academic environment. He says: "NACIS has teachers and senior leaders who are motivated and determined to ensure that every student’s voice is heard and that every student will realise their own potential as a responsible, global citizen in a happy, safe educational environment ".
Chris will lead NACIS not only as a dedicated school community in itself, but also as part of a larger, global, educational community that enjoys the support of MIT in Boston and Juilliard in New York. These initiatives are part of the educational vision that he has personally and Nord Anglia Education have globally, to ensure that NACIS is at the cutting edge of teaching and learning and educational development.
