Zach has a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After school he returned to his birth state of New York to hone his craft by working under various photographers. Since then he has photographed a wide variety of subjects ranging from travel and lifestyle shoots in Istanbul to food and fun shoots across the States for clients such as Delta Airlines, Bon Appetit, and Departures. Besides his commercial work; Zach had his first solo show with his “Walkaway” series in 2004 at Splashlight Gallery and was awarded by the MTA to show his haunting travel images at their Bowling Green station. The photographs were 4 foot by 6 foot transparencies that ran the entire length of the station and was up for a year. He has worked with many high schools in New York to teach photography to troubled teens.
Zach shares the space with his partner, photographer Burcu Avsar. The duo live in Brooklyn with their five year old son and are excited to be a part of WCLA. Their work can be seen on their website at www.zachdesart.com & www.burcuavsar.com
