Beijing Rumbles as Regents' Lions Roar!

Primary FOBISIA 2015 will live long in the memory and proved to be hugely successful for our young Regents' athletes.

Day 1: The Beijing 2015 Games kicked off in an exhilarating fashion when our athletes were immersed in a cacophony of sound at Harrow School indoor swimming pool, where all the competitors from the eight contending schools were eager to get off to a good start and claim a coveted medal for their respective schools.

Our Regents Lions battled through the morning and won a gallant total of 28 medals in the pool.

After swimming it was time to move on to the Paralympic Centre for the athletics. A large black cloud loomed over head and the threat of rain was inevitable. This however did not dampen the Regents spirit, as our focused Regents Lions roared again and collected a combined 50 medals to add to our swimming tally. We had a podium finish in all three of the shuttle relays which meant all of our athletes went to bed on day 1 having won a medal.

​Day 2: The focus shifted to Tee-Ball where all the schools were once again preparing themselves for a long day of competition and hoping to still be in medal contention at the close of play. Regents were determined and secure in the knowledge that they had worked hard in the run up to the games. This endeavor paid off as our year 5 and year 6 teams endured to win silver medals.

Day 3: The final day was upon us in a flash and as sport does brought many ups and downs, laughter and tears but our Regents Lions certainly continued to battle with true Regents resilience.

Unfortunately our football teams missed out on medals in tough windy conditions. Our Year 4 girls team came closest to honours, only to be denied a place in the final by way of a penalty shoot-out. They then contested for 3rd/4th place and were desperately unlucky to lose 1-0 and finished in 4th position overall. 

Our under-10 boys and under-10 girls both finished in a respectable 5th position and played some fantastic football along the way. under-9 boys finished in 6th position, under-11 boys in 7th position and our under-11 girls in 8th position. Such is the nature of sport, our young athletes will have learnt a lot from that day’s events and I know they will be able to use that initial disappointment to their advantage in the future.

The tournament drew to a close with the Gala dinner when the jaded athletes had a moment to reflect on their games and mingle with the new friends they had made along the way. The Regents' journey had concluded with a staggering total medal haul in excess of 100 and transpired in every athlete taking home a coveted medal.

On behalf of all the PE team I once again would like to applaud all of the amazing Regents' Primary athletes. They have been simply outstanding and we are all immensely proud of their efforts. To the travelling parents I would like to thank you sincerely for all your encouragement and kindness towards all of the pupils throughout the competition, you have all been fantastic.

My final words of thanks must go to all of the Regents' parents. Thank you for allowing your children be a part of this wonderful sporting occasion. Quite simply, your children are awesome and we are privileged to work with them and help them learn.
