This week, all students in Computing lessons will be taking part in a worldwide activity called the ‘Hour of Code’. The Hour of Code is a one hour introduction to Computer Science, designed to demystify programming and show that anybody can learn how to code.
This week, all students in Computing lessons will be taking part in a worldwide activity called the ‘Hour of Code’. The Hour of Code is a one hour introduction to Computer Science, designed to demystify programming and show that anybody can learn how to code.
Last year over 15 million students worldwide participated in this activity and this year the Hour of Code is aiming to reach 100 million students. This is why all students across Primary and Secondary will be joining in on the largest learning event in history.
Primary students will be working on Minecraft education. They will work in teams to develop a village from scratch that can be lived in by villagers. This task will encourage 21st-century skills and classroom collaboration as well as getting students to assess and reflect on their work.
Secondary students will be working on different software applications ranging from Minecraft and Lightbot to Scratch and Python, to name just a few. Students can access the resources via https://code.org/learn should they wish to develop this further at home or challenge parents to give it a go.
There has been a positive challenging atmosphere in all classrooms across the school and students are being ambitious in their learning of Computer Science and as a department we are very proud of our students.
