This year's graduation ceremony was held on Saturday 21st May in the Globe Theatre. Following the procession of the students, his Majesty the King's anthem was sung with guitar accompaniment by Teerapat - Game. The opening address was given by Mr. Iain Blaikie, who recited the Desiderata to the Graduands, as well as a modern day version in the form of 9 pieces of advice for how best to lead one’s life.

The main part of the ceremony was formally introduced by Rachel Batty, the IB Coordinator who introduced all of the graduating students individually, giving a brief pen portrait of each one as they came on stage to receive their certificate. The certificates and awards were presented this year by Mrs Nonie Adams, Head of the Primary School, in recognition of her ten years of service at the school and the impact she has had on many of this year’s graduating students. No less than 23 of this year’s cohort were educated in the Primary School at Regents.

In amongst the awarding of certificates and academic prizes were 3 wonderful musical performances by Year 13 students: Grégory performing Requiem for a Dream on the piano, Sung Woo performing an improvisation on the piano around a piece entitled Autumn Leaves and finally a performance of Maroon 5’s Sugar, sung by D.J., Teerapat (Game) and Miss Aina, accompanied by Sung Woo. In addition to the individual Academic Excellence awards for the different IB subjects and Global Citizenship awards, the winners of these three prestigious prizes were announced with the recipients this year as follows:

Dux Scholaris (leading Scholar): Sung Woo

Victor Ludorum (contribution to sport at Regents): Nichagan Elen

King Constantine Medal (Round Square IDEALS): Sung Woo

Chayanee - Tusnim and Teerapat - Game came forward to accept their awards as former Head Students and thanked all those who had helped them through their IB and Secondary education on behalf of the 2016 Graduating Class. In true leadership style, Teerapat – Game, delegated the closing student remarks to Roman, as Year 12 Leadership Pillar, who reflected on the last two years of IB, using a number of colourful analogies to try and explain to the uninitiated just how gruelling the programme can be.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from the Head of Secondary, Garry Russell, before the graduates left the theatre to rapturous applause. After photographs on the steps in front of the Globe, guests proceeded to the Oval to watch the traditional throwing of caps into the air. All then retired to the welcome air conditioning of the Early Years Reception area to enjoy refreshments.
