There were also some very impressive individual results and congratulations must go to Suri, one of our iGCSE students who was awarded an amazing 91% in her iGCSE Economics exam.

Suri joined the school 6 years ago and has just started our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Over the summer she spent 4 weeks completing two courses at the prestigious Brown University in the United States. Hundreds of students apply for these courses each year and have to complete a lengthy application process, including a 500-word essay. With support from her teachers, Suri was one of the lucky few to be offered a place. We asked her what made her decide to apply for the course and what she had learned from the experience.

“This was my first real time away from home and I learnt a lot about being independent and looking after myself. My family gave me a lot of encouragement and support to make the most of the experience and that helped a lot. The highlight for me was the final project where you had to research your topic and make a 20 minute presentation to an invited audience. That has really increased my confidence in myself and my abilities. Whilst I was there I met many of the students from the university. They encouraged me to keep an open mind and think big when considering my future options and university choices.”

Principal, Sarah Osborne-James said, “Suri is a wonderful example of our dedicated, hardworking students who have benefited from our dynamic learning environment where teachers work in partnership with our students to help them to achieve their dreams. We provide a gateway to the world for our students, encouraging them all to be ambitious with their learning experiences. Suri’s success is a reflection of this spirit to succeed.”

Suri is now looking forward to the challenges of the IBDP, but her sights are firmly set on her future studies in a top university, possibly Brown’s, to study Economics and Psychology. Suri’s message to other students is to think big and be ambitious!
