NAIS Manila's First Virtual Science Fair went viral!

Science Fairs and Competitions help develop the key skills that have been the fundamental principles of Science for centuries: curiosity and investigation

2020 Virtual Science Fair title

As a Science teacher myself, I personally believe that a Science Fair project is one of the best learning experiences that a student can undertake. Students get an opportunity to explore any element of their science lessons that they have found interesting and become mini experts in their chosen field of research.

But the winners did not stop there. We also wanted everybody at home to have an opportunity to vote for their favourites. So, the judges also chose 10 finalists from the projects to be nominated for the “Voter’s Choice” Award. The response we got from this was incredible as Padi (Y7) went head-to-head with Nicolas (Y6) and David(Y6). The views of their projects and the votes reached the thousands, and several times the project in number one position switched hands, but finally, Nicolas and David won with an amazing 1100 votes.

I was truly amazed at the quality of work this year. Often entering a school Science Fair can be the first step to some students to enter international competitions where generous scholarships can be rewarded, and I do believe that our students could be future applicants into those competitions using the same projects that they presented this year.

Later this year we will be running a Virtual International STEAM Festival within our South East Asia group of schools, so please watch out for more information on this at a later date.

Well done to all students who participated in the first-ever Virtual Science Fair at NAIS Manila.
