Ski and snowboard races in Pec pod Sněžkou 25.-27.1. 2014

The 7th year of the Prague International Schools’ ski and snowboard slalom race in the mountain resort of Pec pod Sněžkou was organized by the English College in Prague

Three Prague international schools participated in the weekend trip and the ski and snowboard race, the ECP, EISP and PBS.

We stayed 2 nights in the traditional mountain hut Smetánka, right in the middle of the Brown Mountain ski slope, and enjoyed the snowy winter atmosphere. The whole day of Sunday we spent training and free riding even though the morning temperature reached -20° Celsius. Nevertheless, the day was beautiful with sunshine and blue sky, so we were able to enjoy the scenery of the Giant Mountains and its highest peak of the Czech Republic, mountain Sněžka (1602m). Monday was foggy with only about -5°, the visibility was quite bad and due to the slopes being covered with mostly artificial snow, the conditions on the race track varied a lot and made the race more difficult for the students.

There were four race categories for the students to take part in: ski race for girls and boys and snowboard race for girls and boys. From EISP there were three girls competing in the ski race: Anna Romanovská, Anna Zapletalová and Jolana Samii. Anna Romanovská took a tumble in the first round and was therefore unfortunately disqualified. Anna Zapletalová won the 1st leg with the best time but she unfortunately missed one gate in the middle of the second round and had to finish the race as well. Jolana Samii finished both legs and gained the 9th place. The only participating EISP boy, Dominic Sobczak, taking part in the snowboard competition, was awarded 4th place in his category.

All students were enthusiastic and eager to win and hopefully they were rewarded with a great experience and a nice winter trip to the Czech mountains. Let’s hope there will be more snow, fewer degrees below zero and more participants next year and only the EISP students on the winners' podium.
