“Light and Dark” in Nursery

The children in Nursery are getting familiar and more and more interested in our new topic ‘Light and Dark’. We discussed themes such as ‘What is light and dark?’, ‘Day and Night time’, ‘Seeing in the dark’ and ‘Sources of light’. The children enhanced their learning through activities such as circle time discussions, where they demonstrated a good level of knowledge and understanding of the world as well as their interest in this topic. In Art the children chose their favourite light source and have been making pictures of these using oil pastels and water colours. Interestingly, the children’s favourite light sources are fire, volcano and headlights. The children really enjoyed the story of ‘Papa, please get the moon for me’ by Eric Carle this week. Some of the children have been reciting the story independently within their child initiated play time. They began working on their pictures based on this story and will continue with it next week. The children have enjoyed playing in our new role play area ‘Dark tent’ and using different, exciting light sources. The children in Nursery keep showing their enthusiasm for learning on a daily basis and are making fantastic progress.
