On the 8th of December, Deutsche Schule Moskau hosted the 8th MISAS Basketball Tournament and ISM was  invited to compete against other international schools. As always, the competition was fierce...

On an early morning, with the snow still young from the previous night’s storm, the ISM Lions and Lionesses arrived at the Deutsche Schule Moskau for an enduring 12-hour day of competitive basketball against the finest opponents from all around Moscow. It was the annual MISAS Basketball Tournament hosted by the German School of Moscow for the 8th consecutive time. It all began with the opening ceremony when the school’s Sports Director welcomed all teams in the assembly hall that had been transformed into a spacious cafeteria for the day. And so the tournament began...

ISM girls played their game first against the AAS. It was a great success with the girls winning by over 20 points. This success was repeated in their face-off with the DSM girls’ team. The final team for the girls to beat before the final was the Hinkson team. Hinkson was the first team to seriously challenge The Lionesses. During the first half of the game, the score remained close and the match could have gone in either direction. However, the Lionesses dominated the Hinkson team in the second half and came out as the victors.

In the final, Hinkson and ISM Lionesses met again. On this occasion, the Lionesses were in trouble. In the first half, they only scored 6 points to Hinkson’s 15 points. It seemed like all hope was lost. However, as soon as the girls had stepped back onto the court, they scored point after point to win the entire competition. Well done Lionesses!

Despite the fearless and selfless performances of all members of the Lions team, they fell short in 3 out of 4 games to very strong and organised opposing sides.

The day began great as the 7-player squad defeated AAS with a confident 11 point lead. This was followed by a tough loss to hosts, DSM, with the boys falling short by 5 points in a dramatic ending.

After regrouping and replenishing their energy, the team stepped up to face school Number 2005 in their third match of the day. The opposition were efficient and organised, meaning The Lions lost again.

In the final game of the day, the team faced Hinkson Christian Academy. Even though the Lions put up a great fight, the Huskies ended up being victorious.

The coaching staff were pleased with the effort and overall strong performance of The Lions. The boys came fourth in a five team tournament, narrowly missing out on the second place by just one win.
