Marked in over 100 countries across the globe, World Book Day is a UNESCO initiative that aims to celebrate both books and reading, especially among the younger generations.

This year’s World Book Day theme on Krylatskoe Lower Campus was to ‘share a million stories’.

Here at ISM, we decided to adapt this theme and centre it around bedtime stories. Students and staff came to school dressed in their best pyjamas to celebrate their love of reading.

Every lesson during the day started with a bedtime story, where our students were invited to get comfortable and enjoy the range of stories that they were read! Every child was also invited to bring in their own favourite bedtime story in any language they wished. They were given time to read their stories with their friends, often reading and translating between languages, which demonstrated the fantastic level of language understanding that our students at ISM possess.

As our whole school initiative, every child designed and made their very own World Book Day tie that was decorated with their favourite book characters and authors. These ties will be worn by our students when they complete special English activities in lessons to allow them to appreciate themselves as budding readers and writers.

World Book Day at ISM was a huge success, students and staff were all highly enthusiastic to share their favourite bedtime stories, fostering our ever-growing love of reading at ISM. We very much look forward to taking part and celebrating this wonderful event again next year in 2021.
