Staff Profile: Melanie Rushton

Mel Rushton

Pre-Nursery Class Teacher

Melanie began her teaching career in 2006 as an Early Years teacher.  She then worked for 5 years in Key Stage One where she took responsibility for developing the outdoor learning environment.  Melanie then returned to Early Years as the Year Leader.  She has specialised in Literacy and enjoyed the responsibility of leading that subject throughout Early Years and Key Stage One.  Melanie has a key interest in the engagement of children in this subject and was fortunate to be able to visit London’s Institute of Education speaking to key leaders from around the world.  She then came to Shanghai in 2016 and has enjoyed teaching internationally and continues  enjoying the new experiences these bring in Shanghai.

Melanie has always had an interest in travelling and is looking forward to having the opportunity to explore new places and different cultures. She especially enjoys trying new food and meeting her friends socially for dinner out. In her spare time she likes to run and is hoping to enter a local charity run in the near future.  Melanie has two adult sons who used to fill her time with football, skateboarding, wall climbing and bike riding.  Now that they are all grown up she has had time to return to her love of reading and many a weekend is taken up with a kindle in her hand.
