Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
We began our Parent Workshops in earnest in the last couple of weeks, with the Primary School Homework workshop being particularly well attended last Wednesday. We do always blog about our workshops, so if you were unable to attend you can find the details and the presentation available at Primary School Homework Workshop on the school weblog. As our monthly newsletter is being published this week, we have new blog posts available with news from different programmes and areas of the school. Do also check out the rather interesting evaluation from Nord Anglia Education (NAE) on the first year of The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme collaboration.
The beginning of this week is particularly active for our community. We will be focusing on raising awareness of Dyslexia within our community throughout the week, but we also have a non-uniform day tomorrow to raise money for service projects in Tanzania that DCIS Secondary School students will be contributing to during their trip in November. NAE Global Campus has been launched for the 2016-2017 academic year (details below), so do come along to the Parent Workshop tomorrow morning to learn more about this unique enrichment opportunity for our DCIS students. Finally, at DCIS, Nursery to Year 2 students follow a thorough approach to learning to read and spell through our 'Reading Fundamentals' approach. Parents have the opportunity on Wednesday morning to hear how their Nursery to Year 2 children are learning to read and how they can support them.
The next week will see the following events:

Tomorrow will be a whole school non-uniform day to raise money for the NAE Tanzania Expedition. Money raised will be going towards the projects that our DCIS students and staff will be completing on behalf of DCIS in Tanzania such as building smokeless stoves in community housing, helping to build goat sheds and building a local primary school.
The theme of the day will be Safari Animals / Eco Tourists. Teachers will be discussing this day with the students this week so they can plan their outfits for next week. The donation towards this non-uniform day will be $2 per student.

Welcome to the first weekly Global Campus News bulletin – each week we will send out a mailer sharing the latest goings on from the Global Campus.
We hope you all had a fantastic weekend and have made a positive start to the new academic year. All students in Year 4+ should have received their account log in stickers by now – if there is any problem with yours please ask your teacher to inform Mrs Hyland as soon as possible. Read below for the latest Global Campus news and updates.

Nut Allergies
We have students at DCIS with severe allergies to nuts. It takes the whole community to support a 'nut-free' environment, parents, students and helpers. Please ensure that your child is not bringing any food into school which contains any form of nut ingredients so we can maintain a safe environment for all our students.
Traffic Management
Finally, and I have also mentioned this in my monthly newsletter, on a practical and safety note, may I remind parents that we kindly ask all motorists to turn left (and not right) as they exit the school. We do not have control over the main road, of course, so all we can do is seek your cooperation; we are instructing our school buses to do the same as this really helps traffic flow out of the site in the morning and evening.
Best regards,
Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
