Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

I’m not in school this week as I’m part of the Council of International Schools (CIS) visiting team doing an accreditation of a school in South Australia but Ms Lebihan and Mr. Bull tell me there was a great atmosphere in school today as rested children, staff and (possibly?) parents returned ready for the second half of the term. I spent the first part of the holiday in Western Australia and met some very excited families at the airport and on the plane. At one museum I visited the lady taking my money said that they had had a large number of visitors who lived Singapore this week and they really liked them as they were so polite!

Between my two trips to Australia I had the pleasure of meeting with the designers who built our new sensory room and therapy room and seeing the new facilities for the first time. I know that Mr. Kumar and Mr. de Sousa will love their new equipment and the children will really enjoy using them.

Unfortunately being part of the CIS team means I will miss the big event of the week and term, our UN Day. I am very grateful to Ms Lebihan who will make the welcome remarks on my behalf. Classes, staff and parents, coordinated by Mrs. Gray and Mrs. Hyland, have been working hard to set up the day and I look forward to hearing about the stalls and activities when I return to school.

We look forward to welcoming our secondary parents to the Parent Teacher Conferences on Monday and Tuesday, as well as Year 4 parents to the trip information evening on Wednesday. After the success of the Year 3 Night at the Zoo last year I know parents and children will be excited about their first international trip.

Tomorrow morning at 8.45am we will host a Parent Workshop on Online safety. This is an important part of our overall internet safety strategy as it gives parents the information they need to support the work we do in school on this important topic. This also links well with the film Screenagers which will be shown in January to both parents and students.

As the second part of the first term is here, we’d like to remind those of you leaving that the deadline for withdrawal for term 2 is 1st November. Linked is also the calendar for the next academic year, 2019/2020. The calendar can also be downloaded from the DCIS Parent Portal.

Mr. Christopher Short
