Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

A big welcome to all families, both new and returning to DCIS. We have had a busy but fun couple of weeks settling everybody back into the Primary School – I have been delighted to have seen many of our returning students showing new friends around and helping them to find their way at DCIS. As ever, there has been a great feeling of warmth, friendship and community across the school.

As well as our new students we do welcome several new teachers to the Primary School teaching team. All have settled in well and already have become part of the team – it feels as though they have always been here! I hope you will join me in wishing them all well for the year ahead in their new school.

Before the students came back to school the Primary School staff had two days of IPC (International Primary Curriculum) training with two accredited trainers who flew from the UK and Malaysia to be with us. We will be using the IPC to deliver our project work in the Primary School for Years 1 to 6, this is the area of the curriculum that many schools call ‘topic’. We will be running a workshop on Wednesday 12th October about the IPC – do come along if you are interested. We are very excited about the IPC which delivers the curriculum in an interactive, thought-provoking and enquiry-based manner.

We hope you found the Curriculum Evening on Tuesday 30th August as useful introduction to the DCIS approach. Year group staff presented the curriculum for each year group and copies of the presentations are being sent out this week with the Primary Weekly Roundup.

Just some diary dates for you all. We hope you can attend our Family Picnic on Saturday 3rd September, it is promising to be great fun and a lovely opening event. I also look forward to meeting many of you at the upcoming Parent Coffee Mornings that are happening over the term as outlined below. Please do come along to meet the Senior Leadership Team and to talk informally over coffee to other parents in your child’s class and year group.

Thursday, 15th September, 8.45am – 9.30am, DCIS Café

Year 3 Coffee Morning

Friday, 16th September, 8.45am – 9.30am, DCIS Café

Year 4 Coffee Morning

A few new things are happening this term. Children from Years 1 to 6 can look forward to regular homework, this will be outlined in the Weekly Roundup Email each week – homework will begin on Friday 2nd September. We are pleased to be sending out a Weekly Roundup email each Friday which will have details of curriculum coverage for the week and messages for the class. Years 3 to 6 students will now have a Student Planner which will be sent home daily with any relevant notes for you. Do please check the planner daily and feel free to record any messages there yourself for the teacher to read. We do hope that the Student Planner and Weekly Roundup email will enhance our communication in the Primary School.

If you do have any question or concerns, then please do initially contact your child’s class teacher. If you feel, following this,  that you need to talk to somebody else then the Year Group Leader should be your next port of call, followed by one of our Deputy Heads , Mrs Kiara Gray (Nursery to Year 2) and Mr Ian Rinaldi (Years 3 to 6). I am always happy to talk to you should you need to take it to the next level.

I do hope your children are feeling settled and happy to come to school. I am sure they will all enjoy a the family picnic this weekend after such a busy few weeks, and I hope you do to.

Wishing you all some relaxing family time together.

Best regards,

Ms Kara Lebihan
Head of Primary School
