Dear Parents and Carers,

It was wonderful to have our children and students back on Campus last week. A school is an eerily quiet place when there are only a few staff around! We are very pleased with how well our new students have settled in and how welcoming our returning students have been.

As you know from my earlier message, we have started working on the new Secondary building. There are temporary hoardings in place so we have had to limit access to some areas for children but this will change once the permanent hoardings are up next week. I had a heartfelt petition from one class on when they could use the vertical playground – a situation we have now solved.

We have had a few changes in our admin team which affects whom you should contact if there is a non-academic issue. Elin Tan, who was previously my Executive Assistant, has been promoted to be our new HR Manager. Amber Harrison replaces her and can be contacted on her email address (amber.harrison@dovercourt.edu.sg) should you need to make an appointment to see me. Claire Venter (claire.venter@dovercourt.edu.sg) is our new Operations Executive who oversees the buses and GOH transport. Please contact her if you have any issues that GOH can’t immediately sort out.

Our new caterers, Victus, have made an excellent start and we have had some very positive feedback. Sandra Carlsson (sandra.carlsson@dovercourt.edu.sg) is our other new Operations Executive (some parents and children will know her as she was previously a TA with us) and she oversees catering for us. As with buses please contact Victus first but let Sandra know if there is something they can’t solve to your satisfaction.

Our long standing parents will know Maureen Loh, who has been at Dover Court for 36 years and was until recently our HR Manager. She has moved to a part time HR role and will leave at the end of the school year. There will be an opportunity to celebrate her time at DCIS in June.

The DCA are showing Screenagers tonight and tomorrow night and we will show the student version to Secondary students in the next two weeks. This is an excellent resource for parents on managing online use by young people and fits well with the work our IT department do on information literacy and safety online. The screenings will be in Cooper Hall at 7.30pm. We hope to see you there!

Mock examinations continue this week for Year 11 and we wish them all the best for these important assessments. Year 2 have their swimming galas this week and we hope Mr. Holmes' legendary control of the weather continues. We also welcome our Juilliard curriculum specialist Jessica Meyer to the school on Thursday and Friday to work with our music team and students.

As most of you are aware of, a Year 7 boy got lost going home on the public bus in the last week of last term. With respect to this our Primary and Secondary schools will do age appropriate work with students early this term on how to manage these situations but I wanted to pass on one suggestion from the police. This is for parents to keep a copy of the CAN number on the back of their child's MRT card. This enables the police to track their tap in and out of public transport if they do get lost. Another good idea is to put a note with your contact number in your child's bag. We are very fortunate to live in a place like Singapore and the boy was found a few hours after he was reported missing, but it is always a good idea to discuss similar situations with your child.

Finally I would like to remind you of our Parent Satisfaction Survey. Your feedback is invaluable as we are always looking for ways to improve our school.

Have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
