Dear DCIS Parents,

It was a very early start for many of our year 6 students and their parents as they met at the airport eager to begin their adventure on their residential trip to Thailand, we look forward to receiving updates from them this week. Students from years 9 – 12 have also embarked upon their week-long Global Campus expedition to Tanzania, we are equally excited to hear about their experiences when they return next week.

Thank you to everyone who completed the Parent Satisfaction Survey. We had a 62% rate which we are delighted about and so as promised, I will be joining our Primary students as student for a day on Wednesday, I will also be joining students for lunch and on their bus journey to school! I am very excited and certain that I will have a fantastic day. The results from the survey will be announced before the end of term.

On Thursday, as part of Down Syndrome Awareness, we invite all students and staff to come to school wearing Odd Socks. Awareness Days are an important part of our calendar and our students will be taking part in activities over the course of the day.

On Thursday a group of Secondary students will travel to KL together with Mr. Jury and Mrs. Harris for the FOBISIA Maths Competitions. We wish them the best of luck!

Thank you to Mr. Goold and the Secondary science department for organising all the Science Week activities. The Secondary House Day “University Challenge” style quiz was very entertaining and Congratulations to Newton for their Victory!

I would also like to thank the DCA for arranging the very popular Upper Primary discos last week. The children had a fantastic time. DCA’s support in organising events is invaluable and we are grateful for all their hard work.

Yesterday I joined our Irish community for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It was lovely to see staff, students and parents come together outside school.

We have STEAM week coming up week commencing 25th March. Our STEAM leaders Mr. Baines and Mr. Northridge are busy with the preparations. The theme for the week will be Super Natural and they are looking for:

• Biologists, zoologists, veterinarians, naturalists and others that are qualified to speak with students about a wide variety of animal species and their respective ‘superpowers’.
• Product designers, mechanical engineers, or material scientists that can speak with students about specific product design processes.

If you can support our students with this exciting challenge, then please contact Mr. Baines at: richard.baines@dovercourt.edu.sg

I hope you have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

Global Campus  Visual Arts Competition 2018/19 NOW CLOSED

Well done and thank you to all of the students who have taken part in this year’s competition.

We have received some fantastic pieces of artwork, including this superb sculpture from Alice in Class 6KK.

Alice said this about her work:
“The title of my work is ‘Where’s your head at?’ and represents Global Goal 16: Peace Justice & Strong Institutions. I wanted to show how everyone has a choice to make between good and evil. I also believe that good will always win.”

We look forward to hearing the results of this competition next term.
