Dear DCIS Parents,

It was lovely to see so many of you at school on Saturday night for the DCA Family Movie night. Many thanks to Karyn, the DCA committee and all volunteers for organising the event – even the weather was perfect! One of my highlights during the evening was a Year 2 girl asking me if we could get rid of plastic at DCIS - I explained what we had done so far but we agreed that there is more still to do.

Our second year of entry into the Scholar’s Cup got off to an excellent start in the Singapore round last week. Last year one of our teams went all the way to the grand final in the USA so we hope to repeat this success this year.

We are grateful to all parents who came to school on Wednesday to support our annual Proms Concerts. The format allows a large number of students to perform three times as the audience rotates around. It was fantastic to see such talent on display. We also welcomed over 50 parents to our Parent Workshop last Tuesday on how to support learning at home. The material from this session can be found on the Parent Portal. On Thursday we had the Year 4 parents in school to support the Year 4 swimming gala. As always, I’m grateful to the staff who organise these events.

Our MIT STEAM challenge week for Primary and Year 7 took place last week. I would like to thank the parents who volunteered their time to come in to talk to our students. We saw some great innovations to help the challenges the world faces today, all inspired by animals, such as mantis shrimps, pangolins and chameleons.

The last week of term is as busy as any week this year. We are dressing in blue for Autism Awareness tomorrow, while we have a non-uniform day on Friday, where the $2 donations will be passed to the Red Cross to support the humanitarian crisis in Mozambique. Friday will also see our youngest students show off their Easter bonnets.

I met with one of our New Zealand parents last week and we will run a kindness event early next term to show support for the communities affected by the recent tragedy.

We look forward to welcoming parents to school for our Choir Spring Concert on Tuesday. The music department has busy term, they are also travelling to Hanoi with a group of musicians for the Nord Anglia SEA Performing Arts Festival this week.

I hope you have a great week and a pleasant Easter holiday.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

GC News: Global Challenge Success!

Last week, Global Campus Champions and Year 6 Students travelled to Thailand to take part in a range of Community Service projects within the northern region of Udon Thani.

As part of this year’s Global Campus UNICEF ‘Global Challenge’, the students were given the task to design and create an English language game that could be used to support local Thai students with their proficiency in English.

DCIS students visited 5 different schools within the local area and took part in several workshops aimed at supporting local Thai children.

We look forward to sharing more information on the success of this project in the near future.

STEAM Week and the GC Global Library

Students across the Primary School have enjoyed taking part in a range of fun, creative and engaging activities based around the theme of ‘Supernatural’ this week. Many thanks to Mr. Baines for organising and coordinating what was a fantastic week of STEAM success!
