Dear Parents and Carers,

What a lovely celebration of Deepavali we had on Friday. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the staff and children dressed in their new colourful clothes and celebrating the festival of lights.

Yesterday I was honoured to lay a wreath on behalf of the Dover Court community at the Service of Remembrance at Kranji War Memorial. Many thanks to the families who attended the service. I am especially grateful to our music teacher Rebecca Whittington and our school choir, that made up a large proportion of the join British Schools’ choir, comprising the three FOBISIA member schools in Singapore and Marlborough College in Malaysia. I am also thankful to the students who attended the service in their role as Guides or Scouts and to all parent and staff volunteers for their support.

Last Wednesday our students had the opportunity to attend various workshops with hornist Michal Emanovsky, as part of our collaboration with Juilliard. For our school orchestra the highlight of the day was to play together with Mr. Emanovsky in preparation of their Christmas repertoire.

We welcomed Steven Massiah and Madeleine Bystrom to the school today. Mr. Massiah and Ms Bystrom are from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), which is a US accreditation organisation. We are partnering our CIS accreditation next year with WASC as it facilitates applications to US universities more easily and also allows us to have an accredited graduation route for students who don’t follow the IBDP in Year 12 and 13.

We are looking forward to welcoming Year 6 Parents to our Secondary School Open Day tomorrow at 8.45am in Cooper Hall. Mr. Bull and the Secondary team will outline the transition into Secondary School and give an opportunity to see the learning taking place. We hope to see as many of our Year 6 parents there as possible!

On Wednesday at 6pm we will have a Year 5 Parents Information evening for the forthcoming residential trip to Telunas. We will meet in Cooper Hall.

We are very proud of the large amount of charity and community engagement we have seen this term. This week the Secondary Student Council are spearheading a Food Drive to donate items to the Singapore Foodbank. Donations can be made all week, please leave your donations of non-perishable food outside the main library, by the main entrance between 8 and 9am.

Have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
