Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

Many thanks to parents who came into school last week for Parent Representative training with the DCA and our Director of Marketing and Admissions, Zoe Hancock. As I mentioned to our parent volunteers it is a crucial role they play in forming a link between teachers and parents as well as facilitating communication within the class.

We had our second House Day of the school year last week with a literacy focus across the school. I was delighted to be involved in judging the Year 4 interpretation of The Iron Man where teams worked together to act out a scene of the story.

We were delighted to open our new hydroponics garden last week. Saesha, 3JR, Kiara, 3JH and Lily, 3CS raised money at the end of last year, when they were in Year 2, for environmental projects for the school. This is the first of them. I’m meeting another student this week to talk about our use of plastic straws – if we can find a suitable solution then  this will also help our use of plastics in the school.

We have now completed one cycle of the ECA buses. As you know for the start of term it does take some time for classes to get into the routine of the buses and the same is true for ECAs. As you can imagine each day is different pattern for ECAs so it takes a week to run through each one for the first time. We were also hampered by bad weather on two of the days. However, following feedback from parents GOH have introduced a number that will be staffed until all children get home. That number is 88125115. If you ever have any problems with that number please contact Kim O’Flynn Kelly, our Business Manager, on 9736 3274 or in any emergency please feel free to contact me directly on 9159 8603.

Have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

NAE Global Campus

One Book, One World - Malala's Magic Pencil
On Monday, Global Campus launches an ambitious initiative called 'One World One Book'. The challenge is for all students within the Nord Anglia family of schools to read a single book!

This year, the focus book for Primary will be Malala's Magic Pencil. Students will have the opportunity to compete a variety of activities during library sessions and at home over the course of the year.

'Photographers of the Year' Competition
We have already received superb submissions via email from students in Year 3 and 4 so far.

A reminder that this year's themes are 'Family & Friendship', 'Leadership & Fairness' and 'Safety & Calmness'.

Please note that photos need to be taken in Singapore and must be your own photographs.
