Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

It was great to have students back in school after our Year 6 and Secondary trips week last week. The feedback from staff and children has been excellent, even from the Year 6 trip where illness marred the end of the week for some participants. Taking students away for a week is such a valuable experience for children and staff alike but it is hard work for the teachers and I am grateful for their dedication to this. I was in Mongolia for the weekend at the FOBISIA business meeting. Being in –10 degrees for a couple of days either side of 32 degrees was an interesting thing to do. It was a fascinating if brief visit to another FOBISIA school.

I am very pleased to announce that our Council of International schools (CIS) pre-accreditation visit last month was a great success and we have just had the authorisation to proceed to the 18 month self study. One quote from the report was:

DCIS has an effective and well articulated Mission, Vision and Promises which collectively are seen by the school community as its Guiding Statements (GS) - staff, parents and students all attest to the value of the GS. It is very clear that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the CIS Code of Ethics are reflected effectively in not just policy but also practice.

During the self study we review all aspects of school life ahead of a full accreditation visit in November 2019. The self study will involve all stakeholders within the school and I will shortly contact you to give you details of how you can be involved. Over this period of time we will also be finalised the physical improvements we are making to the campus to support the growth of the secondary section of the school and our ever increasingly successful sports provision.

I am very grateful to those parents who completed the Parent Satisfaction Survey, I will give feedback on the results once they are published. I wish you all the best for the coming week.

Have a great week.

Mr. Christopher Short
Principal

Deadlines

  • Visual Arts Competition - Wednesday 21st March 2018

Ask The Artist

  • Last month, over 400 students submitted questions to Juilliard Alumni and professional dancer Riley O’Flynn in the Global Campus Online “Ask the Artist” activity.
  • After reviewing all of the questions, Riley has picked 15 to reply to, and you can see his video answers on Global Campus Online in the Juilliard section.

  • Riley honestly answers questions about being a male dancer, his biggest challenges, how he choreographs, his diet, fitness, and much more.

  • Check out the added Global Goals resources on GC Online. Resources include:

Global Library – 100 Best Books Activity

  • We are curious to hear about the best books students have read this academic year. We’d therefore like to invite all NAE students to take a look at BookTrust’s 100 Best Books list on GC Online and share their thoughts around:

  • Which book from this list do you think is the best you have ever read?
  • Which books do you think are missing from this list?
  • Students are encouraged to post book tiles in any language, not just English.
  • We hope that with this feedback, we can evolve the Global Library into something that will not only help to develop global mindedness and enhance literacy skills, but also cultivate a love of reading in all NAE students!

STEAM

  • Check out some updated resources in the STEAM area on GC Online. Resources and activities include:

  • What is STEAM?
  • Videos linked to the themes of the MIT Challenges
  • An area about SCRATCH, where students can learn about SCRATCH, test out an NAE student’s game and provide constructive feedback. There is also an area for students to submit their own SCRATCH games!

Have a great week everyone. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have, and keep in contact! We love to see and hear what you have been up to with the Global Campus.

Many thanks,

The Global Campus Team
