Taiyo, Year 11

I am currently studying in Year 11. I have been at Dover Court since 2015, when I graduated from the Japanese Primary School, Changi Campus. The main reasons why my family and I chose Dover Court were the small and homely atmosphere and the EAL(English as an Additional Language) programme. The spacious green campus was very attractive as well. With the supportive EAL teachers, I was able to settle in the new environment very smoothly.

So far, it has been great for me to be in such a small school! I have been able to get very close to most people, not only in my grade but also in other grades. Moreover, it has been positive educationally, as each student is given extra support and individualised work by friendly and supportive teachers.

About subjects, I like design and technology and science the most. Sometimes, I study with my friends in our new library after school.  We are also learning about time-management and how to study efficiently from the external educational organisation called Elevate Education, which is coming to the school from time to time.

As for the after-school activities, I play in the football team as captain, basketball, water-polo and cross-country teams.  I can get to play across different kinds of sports because of the small number of students. Outside of classes we often enjoy playing basketball, frisbee and 4 square during recess and lunch time.  There are 2 classes in Year 11, but we are all close and I am often getting together with some of them over the weekends.

Since I really love sports, after my IB Diploma, I would like to study sport sciences, most likely in the UK.  In the future, I would like to get a job related to football or physiotherapy.

Besides, since I enjoy cooking, I did my internship with a catering company last summer.  So I would also like to continue to improve my cooking skills.
