Staff Profile: Joanne Long

Joanne Long

Secondary School Mathematics Teacher

Joanne studied at Loughborough University for three years to gain a B.Sc (Hons) in Mathematics.

On graduating, Joanne spent two years working in supply chain management for global food company ABF. She chose to study her PGCE in Southampton before moving back to the north of the UK to compete her NQT year. Since then she has been working in a school in Cumbria, surrounded by farmland and countryside. She has been working here for three years and in that time she has taken on responsibility for primary liaison. Each week she saw up to 20 students currently in Year 6 who are pushing to achieve high grades in their mathematics tests at the end of the year.

She enjoys making maths fun by incorporating games and challenges into the lessons she teaches. One of her favourite experiences was going to work in an American Summer Camp teaching children how to swim and she hopes to bring her love for this sport to DCIS! She loves swimming and playing sports and in her spare time. Joanne and her husband Dan recently did a triathlon and are going to attempt the Singapore Marathon in December!
