Staff Profile: Eimear McKernan

Emilie Mckernan

Year 10/11 Progress Leader and Secondary School Business Studies Teacher

Eimear has a BA (Hons) in Economics and Geography and Masters in Planning and Sustainable Development. After working in urban planning for two years in Ireland and the UK, she retrained as a secondary teacher and gained her PDE (Business Studies).

After gaining teaching experience in Ireland, Eimear moved to Singapore to avail the rich personal and professional development opportunities. Working initially in a local school allowed Eimear to experience teaching students from a wide variety of backgrounds, languages and cultures.

Since moving to Dover in 2015 Eimear is thoroughly enjoying teaching business and mathematics and shares her passion for podcasts on leadership and entrepreneurism with her students. Eimear believes in the potential of all her students and, helping them unlock this, is a driving passion for her. Eimear particularly enjoys her roles of Key Stage 4 Progress Leader and IB CAS Coordinator as it allows her to help support student progress and development outside the curriculum. She believes that personal motivation, interests and passions are key qualities for each student to develop during their school years and is driven to share as many enriching experiences as possible.

Eimear has enjoyed exploring Asia during school breaks and has recently discovered the wonders of scuba diving. At the weekends Eimear enjoys relaxing with friends, reading and walking her dog.
