Staff Profile: Hugh Barry

Hugh Barry

Secondary School Science Teacher

Hugh Barry graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 with a BA (Hons) degree in Medicinal Chemistry and went on to obtain his Postgraduate Diploma in Education from University College Dublin in 2014.

Prior to Dover Court, Hugh taught in both Ireland and the United Kingdom. His passion for teaching started with instructing scuba diving in various countries such as Ireland, Thailand and Mexico whilst at university. Having discovered his vocation for working with young people and a strong desire to help others turn their weakness into their strength, he enrolled in teacher training. Hugh taught at Willow Park 1stYear in Ireland and then at Clapton Girls Academy in East London. Hugh then decided to focus on perfecting his skills at teaching GCSE and A-level by taking up employment at BSIX Sixth Form College as a Biology Teacher.  He took a leading role in developing the curriculum for both the new syllabus of A-Level and GCSE Biology in order to maximize student progress. In addition to this, he organized over a dozen external trips funded through his contacts at GSK for academic enrichment and successfully tutored students through UCAS, which resulted in many attending top Russell Group Universities.

Outside of the classroom, Hugh loves to take part in sports such as snowboarding, rock climbing and surfing to name a few. As a result, he will more than likely be found attached to his rucksack, traversing the globe in pursuit of the nearest alpine or coastal resort!
