Staff Profile: Morgane Kertrestel

Morgane Kertrestel

Secondary School Head of Art and Design

Morgane obtained a BA Hons in Fine Art from Coventry University before going on to complete a PGCE in Art education from Oxford Brookes University.

It was during her time at University that Morgane first explored teaching and volunteered at a secondary school within the Art department. Morgane quickly fell in love with teaching and began to run after school workshops with pupils whilst applying for her PGCE. Morgane was placed in Trinity Catholic School in Leamington Spa for her placement and it was here that she really discovered Art education at its finest- learning to encourage students to take risks and push the boundaries of Art within schools.

During her first 5 years of teaching, Morgane became a Lead Practitioner within the Teaching and Learning team and progressed onto becoming Head of the Creative Arts Faculty including Art, Photography,  Music, Drama and Dance, leading whole school creative arts performances and exhibitions. Morgane also continues to organise a number of ‘pop-up’ external exhibitions of students’ work, displaying work from lessons, after school clubs, and organising life drawing and visits to Artist workshops.

Morgane is an active advocate for the inclusion of the creative subjects within education and is a keen member of the NSEAD. Through this she represented her previous UK school at the Houses of Parliament discussing the Creative subjects within education at the APPG for Art of design meeting MP Nick Gibb.

Outside of education, Morgane is a keen traveler and continues to use this as inspiration for her own practice as an artist.
