Thomas Coughlan

Thomas Coughlan

Year 6 Class Teacher (6TC)

Tom was born and raised in Manchester, England. He graduated in Hispanic and Latin American Studies at University of Liverpool in 2012 before completing his PGCE, specialising in Spanish at Liverpool Hope University in 2014.

Prior to joining Dover Court, Tom has been living in Qatar, teaching at Compass International School Rayyan, a Nord Anglia school. He loves immersing himself into new cultures and has also been teaching in Madrid and Sevilla in Spain, which gave him a taste of dual language learning.

Tom’s most recent role was the Student Voice Leader for the Compass schools, organising the Student Council, Eco-Warriors and introducing the role of Prefects; he really enjoyed getting involved in the day to day operations of the school. Throughout his teaching career he has always tried to be involved in school life as much as possible, whether it be coaching sports teams, organising school trips or leading after school clubs. He is enthusiastic, positive and wishes to share his love of teaching.

Fostering a safe and comfortable learning environment are at the forefront of Tom’s teaching philosophy, ensuring every child can progress in his lessons. “Enseñar es aprender dos veces” – Joseph Joubert: “Teaching is to learn twice” is one of Tom’s favourite quotes. He is a firm believer in this as he always strive to better himself in everything he does.

Tom is thoroughly looking forward to continuing his career at Dover Court International School, meet new people and form long lasting relationships with his students, parents and colleagues. Tom is a keen sportsman, a huge Manchester City fan and loves seeking new adventures!
