Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,
Last week was another busy week in school. Our children in the Primary School and Year 9 participated in the first STEAM challenge of the year creating some very innovative and creative prototypes of wearable technology. I would like to thank the parents who came in to share their expertise and inspire our students, we are very fortunate to have such a diverse parent body, with knowledge in so many different areas. I would also like to thank our STEAM leaders, Mr. Baines and Mr. Northridge for organising the week, the feedback from the students has been extremely positive.
We were so proud of all of our students who represented the school and competed in the Bedok Reservoir cross-country event last Thursday. In particular we would like to congratulate Isa, Bethan, Zac and Zach for their exceptional performances, bringing home two gold and two silver to our collection of medals. This was also on the same day as the House Cross Country Day, my thanks to Mr. Liperis and all the teachers involved for making this such a fun event. Our Early Years completed their races by creating house hand print pictures which are currently on display in the school foyer.
If you were at the DCA’s Trunk or Treat on Friday, then I am sure you will agree that it was an amazing night, the amount of effort put in by our community to make this such a special evening was astonishing. Thank you to the whole DCA team for once again organising this very popular event.
On Wednesday 7th November we will be welcoming Mr. Michal Emanovsky, as part of the NAE Juilliard Artist Visits. Mr. Emanovsky is currently serving as associate principal horn of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. He previously served as principal horn of the Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra and as guest principal horn with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, the Korean Symphony Orchestra as well as many others. Mr. Emanovsky will run various workshops during the day and will see as many students as possible.
Next Sunday our choir will be singing at the Remembrance Day Service which takes place at Kranji, annually. This is an incredibly moving service and we are very proud to take part. It is a public service, if you would also like to join and pay your respects. We are also selling poppies in reception.
We are looking forward to seeing our Primary students dressed up for the Deepavali celebrations on Friday and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Deepavali.
Mr. Christopher Short
Principal
