Party time with Year 6 and Hy Vong school for disabled and deaf children After 6 weeks of visits, which has seen both sets of children playing fun activities together at British International School Hanoi, we finished with a party so all the children could meet up one last time before the holidays and say goodbye.

After 6 weeks of visits, which has seen both sets of children playing fun activities together at British International School Hanoi, we finished with a party so all the children could meet up one last time before the holidays and say goodbye.

Some of the children from Hy Vong School put on 3 very special performances for our students. It was lovely to hear them singing, using sign language and dancing to songs. After great applause, laughter followed and filled the theatre as we watched Mr. Bean movie clips and then a very special visitor came in to say hello to the children. Santa, yes Father Christmas himself arrived, with some early Christmas presents for our visiting children, who excitedly ran up on stage to meet him!  He also had a box of special gifts which he presented the principal of Hy Vong School; sports and games equipment just like the ones the students have been using as part of the activities during these terms visits, badminton racquets, shuttlecocks, footballs, skipping ropes and sports cones as well as the ever popular and colourful parachute.  All the children then went down to our school canteen to enjoy pizza before departing to return home.  

I would like to say a big thank you to all who helped to raise money earlier this term, so that we could host our guests. What a fabulous way to end term 1 for this community project with Year 6 and the children of Hy Vong School.  The teachers from our community partner have all said that it has been wonderful to see how their students have grown in confidence, learnt new skills and thoroughly enjoyed meeting and linking with our own students.  It has been a hugely successful community link, where our own students have also had chance to show those special qualities that we look for in our aide memoire, caring, respect and learning together.

Hy Vong School translates to Hope School and we ‘hope’ to continue to strengthen our links with our new community partner after Tet with more fun and exciting exchanges.
