The Julliard Launch - what an amazing start to a Friday morning! Thank You, Ms. Rea for enthusing students, parents and staff to challenge our ideas and change the way we think. This morning’s programme included talented musicians from our student community as well as Ms. Khanh, an accomplished violinist. I am looking forward to seeing the Julliard Performing Arts curriculum unfold here at BIS.
Developing leaders is one of our BIS Be Ambitious goals. This week, Mr. Rowlands and I had the very difficult job of selecting our Primary House Captains and Vice Captains.
Children in Year 6 had been given the opportunity to send in a letter of application for one of the positions. There was a tremendous response and letters received were of a very high standard showing a great deal of thought had been applied. The field was narrowed to 4 candidates for each house: Hanoi, Hue, Saigon and Dalat and these budding captains were invited to attend interviews with Mr.Rowlands and Ms.Hill.
It was pleasing to hear the children refer to our Aide Memoire characteristics: Care, Perseverance, Integrity, Enquiry, Respect and Reflection in their answers. They all understood the need to be good role models and look out for children who are unhappy or lonely at break times. Some explained how they would like to share ideas with the Student Council and gather children’s ideas through the use of a ‘Suggestions Box’. Many also spoke of how they want to be ambitious and felt brave putting themselves forward.
I am very pleased to announce this year’s Primary Leaders:
House Captain: Tuong Anh and Vice-Captain: Anh Khoi
House Captain: Vova and Vice-Captain: Quyen Anh
House Captain: Ly Ly and Vice-Captain: Giang
House Captain: Noah and Vice-Captain: Fizz
Congratulations to all those children who were interviewed this week. Mr. Rowlands and I are very proud of you!
Thank you to all the parents who signed up to be a Class or Year Group Parent. I will be contacting you all further next week but would like to ask parents of Year 4S and 6S to consider being a Class Parent as these classes do not have a representative yet. Please email the Primary Office if you are interested.
Next week is our exciting annual Book Week. Mr. Rowlands met with our very own Superheroes on Wednesday to talk about how they can help us next week. They have all promised to be here at BIS to help us show all the important characteristics of our Aide Memoire so please look out for Captain Care, Indiana Integrity, Polly Perseverance, Respectagain, Questionator and Reflection Rebecca.
Parents are very welcome to join in the fun at the following times:
- 3rd October: Ciaran Murtagh (our visiting author) is delivering workshops for children at 8:50 am in the EYC and 9:40am in the Auditorium
- 7th October: parents are invited to our celebration of Book Week at 9:40am in the Auditorium. Coffee will be available in the Parent Meeting Room from 8:30am
The theme of our Book Week is Superheroes and we will be busy creating our own books about our own BIS Superheroes during Book Week. If any parents would like to write stories, either in their own language or English, then we would love to read them!
