Students from tutor groups 10I and 10B planned and organized a wonderful Christmas party for the children from Mai Tam House of Hope. During ILS lessons, they planned 3 activity stations and prepared goodie bags filled with a variety of wonderful treats. The art and craft stations included coloring Christmas pictures and gluing stars and hearts on balloons. One class had gathered wooden toys and blocks for the children to build with. As happens every year, there was a large space put aside in the auditorium for playing football.
The party took place on Thursday, December 7. Some of the children were shy at first but eventually most of them were participating in the activities or were just watching and taking in the atmosphere. One BIS student said that he loved playing with the children because they were happy and seemed to enjoy themselves. There was a lot of mischievous play taking place and it was amazing to see some children from Mai Tam just enjoying running around the posts chasing teachers or each other. The PTG supported the event by providing drinks and refreshments for the children. After playing, eating and drinking, the children gathered around as Santa Claus and Year 10 students distributed presents for them to take home.
The party was a joyous and heartwarming experience for all. What a great start to the festive season!
