Analytical Chemistry Competition at BIS HCMC

Science Quiz.jpg

Ms Lucy Jackson, Science Teacher, tells us about this exciting new event:

15 teams representing all four Houses took part in the BIS House Analytical Chemistry Competition yesterday. Entrants were tasked with determining the concentration of two solutions by reacting them with one solution of known concentration. Using their best titration technique students had to perform laboratory skills and some nifty calculations. This was a House event with a difference – problem solving, critical thinking and analysis skills all playing a crucial role. Thank you to judges Ms Fountain, Ms Westwood and Mr Essery for your support of the competition and congratulations to all competitors for successfully completing the challenge. Students and staff will have to wait for the end of year assembly to find out who the winning House is!

Year 8 Water Balloons

Year 8 have been learning about Archimedes and how his discoveries and inventions are still so important today. Cue slow motion water balloons and an investigation into how pressure and density apply to liquids!
