Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 12/01/18

12 January 2018

The phased move has begun.  Over the holidays, items that are no longer required at TX have been moved to either the Junior Campus or the new Early Years and Infant Campus.  Over the course of this week, the teachers in Years 1, 5 and 6 have been preparing for the move, so it was a disappointment to everyone that we have had to delay the move for one week.

  • Year 1 Orientation 6

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week, teachers and teaching assistants were working with their colleagues from An Phu Primary Campus to set up classrooms and plan a term of learning that will make sure the amalgamation is a positive experience for the children.  It was the first time that many of the teachers had been into the new campus – it was great to hear how positive the teachers were about the new learning spaces.

On Friday morning, over 100 parents of children in Year 1 came to the new campus.  Following a short presentation, in class groups, we had a tour of the new campus.  There was a real sense of excitement amongst the parents.  Here are just some of the things that parents said,

‘It is so beautiful!’

‘My child is going to love coming here.’

‘I have a furniture company and you can see the new furniture is high quality.’

‘I can’t wait to see my child’s face when they see the school’

If you would like to visit the new campus and see for yourself, you can book a tour by clicking on the following link:

The Final TX Whole School Assembly

Final Assembly 2

Inevitably, there was a hint of sadness on Friday morning as colleagues from the other campuses, friends of the school and former pupils joined children, staff and parents for the very last whole school assembly at the Tu Xuong Primary Campus.  The student council thanked our whole community for their contributions and several students who began their educational career in the Foundation Stage at TX, shared why TX was special to them, and were then presented with a glass trophy to celebrate that they are TX Successes.

Following a wonderful video made by Mr Steve, we sang Mr Jon’s version of ‘YMCA’ – ‘BIS YES!’ reminding us that although this part of the BIS journey has come to an end, a new stage is beginning that will help us all achieve more.

The Tet Shoebox Appeal 2018

Tet Shoe Box Collection

Each year, we have a Tet Collection where we receive donations which we then pass on to our community partners.  This year we are going to make our donations more personal.  We would like every child in BIS to collect together a box of items which can be given as a present to someone less fortunate than ourselves at this time of celebration. You can bring your Tet Boxes to any campus and more information can be found in this post:

International Week 2018 - Update

International week has traditionally been held in the first half of Term 2 at the Primary Campus. Due to our phased amalgamation, we have made the decision to postpone International Week until Term 3. As a leadership team and after consultation with the International Week committee, we felt it would be unfair to students, teachers and parents to hold such a huge event when children and teachers will only just be settling into their new classrooms and campuses.

We will confirm the new date ASAP but it is most likely to be in June towards the end of Term 3. We feel this date will allow all students to have settled into the Infant and Junior Campus and will also provide a fitting end to our amalgamation as we come together as a school to celebrate such a special event for our International community.

We would like to thank all of our parent community for your support and understanding about these changes.

w/c 22nd January

Thank you for your understanding.

Children can start at BIS HCMC when they are 2 years old.  Fundinotots is the ‘BIS Baby and Toddler Group’ where parents of children aged 0 to 36 months can meet other parents and allow their children to engage in a range of activities.  From January 15th, Fundinotots will be based on the new Early Years and Infant Campus.

Health and Safety Reminders

Please make sure that whoever is bringing your child to school or collecting them at the end of the day is wearing their lanyard containing your child’s identity card.  It is also very important that at both the beginning and end of the day, you scan the card on the machine as you arrive and when you leave the site.  This enables us to keep a record of who is on the school site at any one time; another measure that helps us to keep your child safe.

Every child who rides a motorbike at all times must wear a helmet to protect themselves in case of an accident.  We are continually witnessing children being brought to school on a motorbike and not wearing a helmet.  Please ensure that this safety feature is a part of every single motorbike ride for both your child and you.

Thank you,

Ms Mary

And Finally…

Although we will continue for the next two weeks, I want to take this opportunity to express how thankful I am to have had the opportunity to serve as Headteacher of such a wonderful school.  It was Helen Keller who said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’  As I reflect on my experience at TX, this is certainly true for everyone involved with school.  Every member of our school community has worked together, persevering through difficult times, and demonstrating a love and care to make TX a place where children can flourish.

I look forward to continue working with you in the future as we enter a brand new era for the school.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ian Battersby, Head of Tu Xuong Campus
