The CCA is a fantastic and enjoyable opportunity for our students to work with young people in the local community and also to improve their own communication skills and awareness of a different aspect of community life.

Our secondary students have enjoyed another great term at the local primary school, Huynh Van Ngoi, whilst teaching English to the year 5 students as a part of their co-curricular activity (CCA) and community work.

The focus this term was helping the students at Huynh Van Ngoi to prepare for a Ho Chi Minh City public speaking competition, in which the children are required to speak in English to an audience about a short video clip and answer questions based on the theme. Our activities have revolved around building both confidence when speaking in front of groups of people, as well as building English vocabulary. Having reached the second round of the competition, our students were able to work with a smaller group of the primary children in order to help them be fully prepared for the District 2 round of the competition in December.

Some words from our students here at BIS HCMC:

“To make the students prepared for the contest format, the first activity we did was showing pictures and helping them describe what they see, along with their opinions about the pictures. Then we developed this activity by describing 5 videos, which will be used in the competition. Through these activities, the students were able to establish skills in manipulating short sentences into longer paragraphs.” - Dana Christina Kim & SeMin Lim

The CCA is a fantastic and enjoyable opportunity for our students to work with young people in the local community and also to improve their own communication skills and awareness of a different aspect of community life.

We wish the students luck in the district competition and we hope they make it to the city competition in January 2019.
