Mr Anthony Rowlands: Weekly Update 02/02/2018

02 February 2018

I am writing this update at Heathrow airport getting ready to return to Ho Chi Minh City after attending the very successful Nord Anglia Education (NAE) recruitment event held in central London.

  • Year 3 DT Project
  • Lord Puttnam

We have made very good progress in recruiting high quality teachers for the next academic year. We had a strong field to pick from and all those I met were extremely positive about BIS HCMC and were very keen to join us. Our reputation as an excellent school  is clearly evident.

We started the event with an SLT workshop and dinner where one of the keynote speakers was Lord David Puttnam, Chair of the NAE Advisory Board, who has a great love for education in general. He is a fascinating person with  motivating qualities and beliefs and is known worldwide for being an  Oscar winning film producer. In the past, he has produced films such as Midnight Express, The Killing Fields, Bugsy Malone and Chariots of Fire which won the academy award as Best Picture. He is always an inspiring figure to listen to. More recently, up to 2016, he was the British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and I have been very lucky to have met him on several occasions through my role as a BBGV (British Business Group in Vietnam) Board member. Therefore, I had the opportunity to chat with him after the dinner in London when I invited him to formally open our new Early Years and Infant Campus - an invitation which he happily accepted. It is now a case of agreeing a date when he can travel out to HCMC which, due to his busy schedule, is likely to be early in the next academic year.

I look forward to returning to Vietnam and wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Mr Anthony Rowlands, Principal
