U19 Girls Basketball City Championships - Match Report

28 February 2018

After a long bus ride from BIS HCMC to AMIS, the girls were ready to play some quality basketball at SISAC 2018.

  • U19 Basketball City Championships

We started off the tournament against AIS, the winners of the tournament, where we faced an unfortunately close loss.

Despite the first loss we picked our heads up and played our next back to back game - ISHCMC. They had beaten us in the friendly and so we were determined to win the game, and we did. We played brilliantly with energy, called plays and scored many baskets.

Next up was SSIS, who had also beaten us quite badly in the friendlies and so we were even more determined. We fed off the high momentum we had after the ISHCMC win and we played for the win and claimed it.

Last was AMIS, the host school. We went into the game with high hopes as we could place 2nd or 1st if we won this last game and we started playing, but we were faced with AMIS’ determination to win as well. It was an extremely close and frustrating game... We were tied for 3 minutes and in the last 10 seconds AMIS scored a free throw and so they beat our girls team by 1 point.

We played our best and kept running even when we were tired after 3 back to back games, but we still managed to place 3rd and our efforts were what counted on that day.

Mr Mcloughlin’s player of the tournament was Sienna; a “warrior” under the basket and a key player of our team. Good job Sienna!

Players player of the tournament was Hayley who supported every player and gave her best scoring baskets even with a recovering fractured thumb and asthma. Thank you and well done Hayley!

Good luck to Hanako and Ha Thanh who are leaving us this year and I hope that you two will keep playing basketball.

We have high hopes for next year and I am sure that we will be able to achieve higher.
