As we progress towards the end of the year there is a distinct buzz in the air as the children learn about and know the places they will go when they return from their summer holiday.  The period of change can be challenging, particularly for young children.  Children need routine and are easily engaged when they know what to expect.  These are the foundations as to why we at school, prepare the children for the next year group through specially designed transition activities.

This week on Tuesday morning, all our children mixed themselves up and then sorted themselves into their new classes for the next academic year, 2018-2019.  Those teachers and teaching assistants who are already at our school introduced themselves to their new classes and set up exciting and aspirational activities to get a flavour of the year ahead.  Those classes who could not meet their new teachers, as they have not yet joined our school, were able to meet their new class teacher through the fantastic videos and presentations that they had created especially for our children.  Children then spent time participating in activities that helped them start to get to know one another as a class.

The transition programme is so valuable to all the children.  Not only do they begin to imagine what their classroom will look like in August, they also get the opportunity to begin to build strong partnerships with their peers and teachers.  An excellent starting point like this always supports positive learning and development for the children right from the beginning of the new school year.

On Tuesday afternoon, parents also had the opportunity to take a look at the children’s work from this year and then visit the children’s new classrooms and meet the new teachers (if they are already at BIS HCMC).  From this point forward to continue this good practice around transition, we recommend that at home over the holiday you talk to your child about the changes ahead; their new classmates, classroom and class teacher.  Together this will aid a smooth transition from one year to the next.
