Dear Parents,

Returning from the Tet break our students have been eagerly making the most of opportunities available to them in the term ahead and I am so pleased to share some of these with you here starting with the outcome of a hotly contested selection process for our 2019 UNICEF Ambassadors.

UNICEF Ambassadors

Once again we are excited to be sending two BIS HCMC students to represent our school and share the work that we are doing towards the Global Goals at the United Nations summit in New York in July 2019.

Following a highly competitive application and selection process we are delighted to announce Nina Pham (Year 12) and Eugene Chang (Year 11) as this year’s ambassadors, and we look forward to working with them in these roles over the coming months. A huge congratulations to them both!

Global Library 2019 - One World, One Book

Next week in the Junior and Secondary Campus libraries we will be launching the 2019 Global Library "One World, One Book" initiative.

In the Secondary Campus we are encouraging as many students as possible to read "The Breadwinner", but this isn't just for the students. Teachers and parents, we want you to get involved too! Get a copy of these books from our libraries and let us know what you think. Read on to learn more out the two recommended books in the 2018/19 reading list.

Sports opportunities in Season 3

Just a reminder:  we are now into Season 3 for SISAC competitions.  You can check Sports Squads Season 3 schedule to see the CCAs for each of the Season 3 sports.

Being in the Discomfort Zone

We often have parents approach us asking about how their child will cope with, and adapt to, the challenges of Expeditions Week. The positive feedback from teachers and students about this year’s expeditions has shown that so many have recognised they have changed after facing these challenges and have further developed the skills and the resilience to bring about their own success.

Here is a short article from David Wall, Global Expeditions coordinator for Nord Anglia Education about the positive results for students who have chosen to spend some time in the discomfort zone.

Students Learn Better When They Learn Together

Focussing on teamwork and collaboration-based learning will better prepare the students of today with the skills for the future of work tomorrow.
Nord Anglia Education’s education team programme manager Stacey Carmichael wants you to know how NAE’s dedicated education team is working to support us as a school to continue to develop our education programmes for the best possible learning outcomes.  Read about how we are encouraging our students to learn together with Nord Anglia Education.
