Young Musician of the Year 2020

Young Musician of the Year 2020 On Tuesday 6th October, a select number of students from British International School and British Vietnamese International School came together to perform and celebrate the FOBISIA Young Musician of the Year 2020.

On Tuesday 6^th October a select number of students from British International School and British Vietnamese International School came together to perform and celebrate the FOBISIA Young Musician of the Year 2020.

Young Musician of the Year 2020 was an amazing experience and great opportunity for some of our talented students to showcase their musical skills and develop confidence and performance style throughout the increasingly competitive rounds.

It was also a very sociable event with students from both schools taking part in a mutually supportive environment.

Each child had to go through two rounds of auditions to make it to the grand finale, which was held for the first time at BVIS. From the first to the last round nearly one hundred children have taken part across the two schools, however only nine made it to the final performance.

Our judges, Mr Gareth Groves (Head of Visual and Performing Arts at ABC), Ms Emma Husband (Assistant Head of Music at BIS Secondary) and Ms Olivia Lopez (Head of Drama at BVIS), had a challenging decision to make and had many conversations about who should win the prestigious title of Young Musician of the Year 2020.

Our young musicians performed a wide variety of styles on an assortment of different instruments.

The finalists from BIS were John Yang from 6H who performed 12 Variations on "Ah! Vous Dirai-je, Maman" by Mozart on Piano, Xuan Anh Nguyen from 6S who played Invention No. 8 by Bach on Piano, Julia Chung from 6I performed Allegro by Taffenel on Flute, ChanHyeok Kim from 6H played Czardas by Monti on the Violin, and Katie Nguyen from 6C who played Serenade by Schubert on Piano.

Huge congratulations to ChanHyeok Kim, who was the overall winner, his performance on the Violin was simply breath-taking.

We are already looking forward to next year’s competition!
