The home school partnership is something that is extremely valuable and an integral part of ensuring happiness and success for our students.

Primary Specialist Open Morning 2020 Poster The home school partnership is something that is extremely valuable and an integral part of ensuring happiness and success for our students.  Although we haven’t been able to welcome parents on site nearly as much as we would like this year, we have tools such as seesaw, the weekly update, learning letters and other tools, that we hope support parents in seeing how their children are progressing and what they are experiencing at school.

Of course, opportunities to be in school and see ‘school and learning in action’ are so vital so we are committed to ensuring parents can come in for assemblies, meetings and workshops. We hope to increase these opportunities in the coming weeks and months.

As such, it was a real pleasure to welcome so many parents to our Specialist Open Morning on Tuesday here at the Junior Campus. Everyone had the opportunity to visit, MFL, PE, ICT, Swimming and Music lessons as well as the Learning Support Rooms and the Library.

This opportunity was a wonderful way for our parent community to see first-hand the way in which our students are taught in specialist lessons, and why it is they come home excited about what it was they did in one of these sessions.  As mentioned above, it is clear that there is a need for more of these types of events and we look forward to hosting more in the future to allow even more parents to see in real time, live lessons in action.

IPC - Cross Curricular Learning at Primary.

IPC 0611 7

At BIS Primary, our humanities, art, design technology and international learning are taught through IPC (International Primary curriculum) which combines all these subjects in an exciting and engaging series of lessons. This term, our learning in IPC has seen year groups travelling through time to meet dinosaurs and ancient civilisations; jetting off through space to Mars; and exploring the fascinating world of fashion, amongst other things. Find out more in this article by Ms Ellie, one of our IPC Subject Leaders.

White Squad Swim Meet

On Tuesday 27/10/2020, our Junior White Swim Squad had their first Internal Swim Meet at the Secondary campus swimming pool. There were 27 students participating in 3 individual events: 100 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke. Find out the event ran and see some photos of our swimmers in action in this post by the Aquatics Team.

Central Vietnam Flood Appeal

Flood

We have all seen the devastation and dreadful impact on the people of central Vietnam by the recent floods and weather. Our BIS community came together to raise much needed funds for the relief effort and I am delighted to let you know that the total amount collected across all three campuses was a staggering;

VND 296,620,000 (approx. USD 12,700).

Thank you to you all for your support and generous donations, it will make a real difference. The donations were passed on to our community partner, The Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation for their work with flood victims.

Community Choir

The community choir are back in business!  Rehearsals are at 7am on Thursdays in the Secondary Theatre and at 1.15pm in the Junior Campus Multi-purpose room.  All staff and parents welcome. Here is a link to the website with details of forthcoming performances and music we will sing.

Poppy Appeal

poppy

The Royal British Legion created the Poppy Appeal to help those returning from the First World War. A Century on from that conflict, we’re still helping today’s Service men and women, veterans and their families, whether coping with bereavement, living with disability, or finding employment. Without your help, none of this would be possible.

Please join us in showing that we REMEMBER on the 11th of November by purchasing a Poppy or Poppy stationery. Available at Reception until the 11th November 2020

Health and Safety

COVID Precautions

Just a reminder that all children should wear a mask to and from school, and when not in the classroom (moving between classrooms, playtime, etc.).  Please make sure the mask is named and that your child has a spare in their bag.

Children should be bringing a water bottle to school every day as part of their usual routine, but it is all the more important during the current coronavirus pandemic.  Please make sure that your child brings their water bottle, with their name clearly on it, every day.

Drop Off and Pick Up arrangements.

Sincere thanks to everyone for your support in adhering to the guidelines for drop off and pick up. In the afternoons for those exiting through Gate C, please do not cross the road to the secondary campus there.  Please go to Gate B where guards will assist you.  Please note that parents cannot cross the bridge at this time as parents are not allowed in to the secondary campus. Thank you for your cooperation.
