Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 14/05/2021

Ian Battersby (92 posts) Head Teacher, Early Years and Infant Campus View Profile

Although the children have not been in the classrooms at the Early Years and Infant Campus, it has been a super week of learning for children of all ages.

I would like to thank the BIS community for their support as we have once again begun online learning. We know that this is a challenge for our younger children, but I have been really impressed with the number of children who have engaged with the learning activities set by the teachers and the attendance during the live sessions in F3, Year 1 and Year 2.  For example, on Wednesday, 98.6% of Year 1 children were online and continuing to learn with their classmates.

Home Learning Resource Delivery

During the last period of online learning, we produced SPLAT@Home boxes for our children in F1, F2 and F3. These boxes contained resources for families to use at home to enable the children to continue learning, directed by the teachers.  On Monday 17th May, we will be delivering SPLAT@Home Refill bags with a range of different resources put together by our EYFS teams to engage children.  In addition to the resources for the Early Years children, we will be distributing resources for children in Year 1 and Year 2, to enable them to carry out different tasks set by the teachers and linked to their class topics.

The link to sign up for your resources has been shared with you via Seesaw and we have seen a great response with most families now having signed up. You can collect your resources from one of the following locations at the given times:

Thao Dien

Outside the Early Years and Infant Campus between 10am and 5pm

Binh Thanh District

From Ms Sarah between 10am and 10.30am outside Starbucks Landmark 81 Tower, 722A Điện Biên Phủ, Phường 22.

Language in Focus

Week 2 – Sing a song in your language

We’re now in Week 2 of the LiF Mother Language Challenge. This week, we are asking you to show off your singing talents by performing a song from your culture.

Watch the video below for instructions on this week’s challenge.

LiF Mother Language Challenge - Week 2

Remember, if your home language is English, you can sing in English.

For everyone at the EY&I Campus, please post any videos and photos into this Google folder.

If you haven't done the Week 1 challenge yet, don't worry! It's not too late - you can still do it, any time.

And Finally…

Once again, I have great admiration for the Vietnamese authorities who seem to be containing the current outbreak of COVID-19.  We are closely monitoring the situation, and will update you as soon as we have any news regarding allowing the children to return to the learning in the classroom.

To all our Muslim families who are celebrating Eid at the moment, I wish you and your families peace, harmony, happiness and good health.  Eid al-Fitr Mubarak!

Wishing everyone a safe and restful weekend.
