With just 4 weeks till the end of the term, it’s fair to say that things are ramping up on the Junior Campus rather than slowing down.
With Sports Days, Productions and International Week ahead of us, the Junior Campus is a hive of activity.
This week, our Year 5 students were represented by 8 finalists in the annual Speech Competition. Topics ranged from protecting our oceans to why masks need to go to how smoking should be banned. What struck me most about all these speakers and indeed the many that spoke in their earlier rounds of the competition, was their confidence and courage to stand in front of their peers and share their well thought out speeches. The Year 5 Speech Competition is not the only thing that has been happening. Today in assembly we celebrated FOBISIA competition winners in both Maths and Writing. It is wonderful to see the children having opportunities to showcase their learning, hard work and talents with students from across Asia and indeed the world with our Nord Anglia Partnerships. The children were also inspired by BIS past Pupil Jeremie Luong who recently competed in the SEA Games! He shared his experiences with the children and how he has reached great success.
More opportunities await for the students in the coming weeks. Sports Days and Productions, the Year 6 Exhibition and International Week. We look forward to welcoming many of you to these events in the coming weeks.
Today we hosted a Moving On Workshop for our families departing BIS. It was a lovely morning and an opportunity for families to share their experiences and begin to prepare for the move. We wish all our families that are leaving us the very best and hope we hear from you in the future to let us know how everything is going. Please click here for details.

Our Primary school has been filled with the warmest kind of music - music shared between friends, families, and very proud parents. Students from Year 1 through to Year 6 have performed in our latest series of Tea Time Recitals.
The fantastic range of performances featured singers, violinists, a recorder player as well as the very first student performance on an accordion at our Early Years campus! The range of repertoire demonstrated the breadth and depth of musical experiences that our wonderful musicians are engaging with.
As Ms Dee commented, it was the very best way to spend a Friday afternoon. Thank you to everyone who contributed towards the performances and we will look forward to further opportunities in the future.

On Tuesday afternoon this week, Year 5 hosted the final of the annual Speech Competition. Parents, teachers and the Y4 and 5 audience were all captivated and blown-away by the quality of the finalists’ speeches, not to mention their bravery and confidence delivering their speeches in front of such a large audience.
All Year 5 children have spent the past few weeks learning about persuasive writing and how to deliver a powerful speech. After listening to everyone’s wonderful speeches in class, one finalist from each of the classes was selected for the final. During the competition, our hosts, Bill and Yu-An, introduced the audience to each speaker whose topics ranged from, ‘Sports should be Cheaper’ to ‘Space Exploration should be Stopped’. Every single one of the finalists dazzled, engaging the audience who were hooked on their thought-provoking topics. We also caught a glimpse of the high standard of speeches and range of topics from across the year groups with video montages of other class contestants played on the big screen. The audience were also treated to some musical interludes from some more talented members of the year group!
Of course, the judges had the difficult decision of deciding an overall winner from the 8 finalists and, my goodness, what a tough decision it must have been – the standard was incredibly high across the board. Each speaker really shone, whether it was how they interacted with the audience, how passionately they believed in their chosen subject, or how clearly and confident they were in their delivery. Congratulations to Zaara in 5S who was chosen as the winner and a huge well done to all the contestants across the year group for their efforts in the run-up to the final.

Our budding Year 5 and Year 6 photographers have been having lots of fun in the photography club this term. They have been learning how to capture the perfect image in a variety of scenarios. The children have looked at Pop Art images by artists such as Andy Warhol and have created self portraits in a similar style. They have also been playing around with perspective, motion blur and freezing action to create interesting images. This week, they have been taking pictures through crystal balls and have achieved some beautiful and unusual shots. Check out the photography club notice board to see the children’s new images each week.

On Friday June 3rd we will celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Children are invited to come to school dressed in Blue, Red and White and we will have a special performance in assembly from our Orchestra and other clubs.
We would like to invite all parents to our PTG AGM taking place on Thursday June 9th at 5.30pm in the Early Years and Infant Campus. We will hear from the PTG at secondary and Primary and say farewell to some key members of both PTG groups. We hope you can join us.
The children are currently working hard in their PE lessons mastering the athletics techniques for the upcoming sports day. After the success of last year, the format will be the same, with all children participating for their house in both track and field events. The children will run, jump, and throw to earn points for their house, with the emphasis on having fun!

BIS-Witched, a series of performances connected by the theme of magic, has been the focus of production clubs for Year 3,4,5 and 6. Students will be hitting the stage in the first week of June on a specially built stage and screen in the Junior Campus.
In only 6 weeks of clubs these teams are creating performances to share with the school and their families, and we couldn’t be more proud of the wonderful work they have been doing. Year 3 and Year 4 are students of schools of magic and Year 5 and 6 are very busy over the rainbow. The photos are a teaser of their work.
Productions will be performed on the following dates and parents of the performers will be invited to a 4pm show to experience the true magic that our performers create.

Whilst we seem to have left Covid behind us for the time being, that does not mean that the Health and Safety Team on the Junior Campus are able to put their feet up and rest easy. Keeping a campus the size of ours safe is a full time job, and we work incredibly hard to make sure that the little things that mostly go unnoticed, are working smoothly and more importantly, safely. Over the past fortnight, our parent company, Nord Anglia Education (NAE), conducted an external audit of the Health and Safety policies and procedures of the school. This is an exhaustive process, but we are very proud to report that the feedback from NAE was excellent and that they were very impressed with our systems and processes.
More recently, we had some excitement on the Junior Campus when an unannounced Fire Drill was called, and we added an extra complication into the scenario whereby an injury was faked and an Ambulance was dispatched from the Family Medical Clinic to attend the injury. This all happened as our students were filing out of the school in an orderly fashion in response to the blaring Fire Drill sirens. The added injury meant that the students needed to move from our first muster point on the small field to the second muster point on the large field. This has not been done for some time, and yet the students were brilliant with the late change that was necessary. From the H&S Team, our thanks go out to all the students and staff on the Junior Campus, the wonderful work of Nurse Shena and Nurse Love, and finally, to the ‘Academy Award Winning’ performance of our injured person, Mr G – VERY believable as he was being wheeled to the waiting ambulance! Glad to say Mr G made a miraculous recovery and walked back in to school as soon as the ambulance dropped him at the front of Gate A!

Finally PTG events are back! And what better way to restart our events than a 2 day Book Sale that raised 40mVND for our BIS community partner, Thuy’s Dream Foundation!
This is a tremendous amount of money that will enrich the lives of children battling cancer and offer long term support to them and their families.
Thank you to all those parents and teachers who generously donated an eclectic collection of books. Our parent volunteers worked hard to sort the books and set up the Sale, with the invaluable support of the Primary facilities teams. Of course none of that preparation would matter if we didn’t have a wonderful turn out of adults and children, leaving with arms full of books, making generous donations.
It was so lovely to see such joy amongst the BIS community being able to come together, hear the excitement as children discovered books they couldn’t wait to take home, and witness the generosity of everyone involved.
It would not have been a success without everyone’s support. So Thank you to you all.
Despite such a successful event, we still have a huge collection of books left so will be considering other opportunities in which to sell them - so watch this space!

Today in Learning Letters you will have seen reminders about Uniform orders and Helmets. Please can we ask all parents to ensure they have completed the Uniform order by Monday 30th May.
Helmets are a must. I often hear from parents, we forgot, it’s just a short journey. Accidents can happen anywhere, 2 minutes from home, 2 hours from home. The injuries will always be less wearing a helmet, regardless of distance. Please don’t forget them. Helmets save lives just like seatbelts.
